it's a typical monday evening, people rushing to train stations to reach home. Due my sister's summoning i headed to Orchard to visit her in her workplace and eventually go home together.
Then i realized that a typical monday evening actually has two faces...
1) people rushing to home for rest
2) people queuing in a newly opened clothing boutique
and we sadly fell under category #2. I haven't queued outside a store on my 20+ yrs existence just to enter it (that's why i avoided thanksgiving outlet shopping). Should i say it took us roughly 15 mins before we were able to enter the store... which then gave me the idea and feel that this is a famous and rather important store.
The aura inside is like one of the scenes in 'confessions of a shopaholic movie' where people seemed to be like busy ants excited, seeing food cramps everywhere... women not knowing which clothing rack to run into, with their boyfriends strutting behind them holding their selections.
girls not wasting time queuing in fitting rooms by fitting the shirts/dress on top of their clothes to check if they're ok.
overhearing a conversation which seems like a news interview.. (i was peeking up to check if there are cameras anywhere) a female asking about the latest fashion, if the store is up to date and where are the styles being patterned from, inspiration perhaps.. that's when i realized that the female is a customer asking a salesperson who was clearly clueless on what she's asking about and inventing words to satisfy a genius-pretending guest.
the top floor has more expensive shirts, polos, cardigan etc, which seems to be too thin to wear, apparently students were clever enough to pick the cheapest ones from the rack which has bright colours and clothing brand revealed in the shirt
after a few minutes i realized i already have 3 items on my hand, a dress, a sweater and a shirt. Funny though cause i was begging my sister to stop this madness cause for sure she or I will find something more and us ending up to buy a lot..(did i tell i transform to panic-stricken shopper whenever im with her?).
As the salesperson made announcements that the store will be closing, people stirred up much more, running from one clothing rack to other, making their last minute choices. Some have added more to the shopping sacks while others are emptying theirs with 'impulsive' clothes which they seem to be senseless to buy.. they instead picked some cheaper accessories near the cashier inorder to have sense on their visit and take home a branded paperbag of the famous store.. On my part, i ended up having none in my hands... clothes that i have chosen one by one i have dropped to different racks cause i dont feel the need for buying them..
then another anouncement came in.. for people to queue for payment, just then one by one i seemed to be magnet over those that i have chosen earlier, all of those items ending up in my hand then to the counter.. huwaat?
then again i realized im adopting to singaporean society where earning money means buying luxury and
taking home famous clothing store paperbags
